Excuse David Price for attending his first Vanderbilt football game of 2008 nine games into the season. He’s been a little busy with baseball.
When Vanderbilt was facing Duke two weeks ago, Price and the Tampa Rays were getting ready to play game three of the World Series. Saturday, Price returned to Vanderbilt for the first time, where he was recognized during the coin toss before the game.
“I’ve never done anything like that,” Price said. “It was definitely very cool and I’d love to do it again sometime.”
Price received a roaring response from the fans when he was introduced. It was a response that didn’t surprise Price, who has always appreciated Vanderbilt’s fans.
“I wasn’t surprised, it was the same when I was at Vanderbilt,” Price commented. “They were great fans when I was here and I didn’t expect them to change when I left.”
With the offseason in full swing, Price will spend this winter in Nashville, while working out at Vanderbilt. During that time, he plans on attending Vanderbilt’s final home football game and spending many evenings at Memorial Gym. Like the rest of Vanderbilt’s fans, Price hopes he’ll have to book a plane ticket for a bowl game.
“It is probably a trip I’d try to make,” Price said. “It would be huge for this school and they’d probably get a lot more supporters once they did make a bowl game. I think a lot of people would try to go to that game and support Vanderbilt.”
With the Price’s season lasting until Oct. 29, he is still trying to catch his breath.
“I’m definitely still catching up,” Price commented. “I’ve been running around ever since I got here. I’m still kind of going day by day.”
Price will have a few more weeks to catch up before he starts working out under a program that is designed by the Rays.
“This is my offseason, I’m not doing anything baseball wise and probably won’t for another week or so,” Price said. “I’ve just been taking it easy.”
After the postseason Price had, I think he deserves an opportunity to take it easy.
