Preeg honored by conference

BIRMINGHAM, Ala. – Junior Chelsea Preeg has been named the Southeastern Conference women’s tennis player of the week, as announced by the conference office Tuesday afternoon.

In Vanderbilt’s two conference victories this past weekend, Preeg posted a combined 4-0 record in doubles and singles play. On Friday, Preeg contributed to Vanderbilt’s sweep of Mississippi State with an 8-3 win in the No. 2 doubles match and a 6-1, 6-1 victory in the No. 3 singles match.

Against Ole Miss, Preeg and doubles partner Jackie Wu cruised to an 8-0 victory on court two. Preeg concluded her weekend with a 6-4, 6-4 win in the singles play to help Vanderbilt to a 6-1.

After dropping her first match of the dual season, the Naples, Fla., native had won eight in a row in singles play. She and Wu are 8-2 in doubles this spring, having won eight of their last nine matches.

The Commodores, ranked 10th in the nation, continue conference play this weekend at Georgia and Tennessee on Friday and Sunday, respectively.
