Postseason Dores Prep for Divisional Round

Five former Vanderbilt standouts continue their World Series quest

NASHVILLE, Tenn. – As the divisional round of the Major League Baseball playoffs is set to begin Monday afternoon, five former Vanderbilt standouts will continue their quest for a World Series title.

Walker Buehler and the top-seeded Dodgers completed a sweep over the Milwaukee Brewers in the wild card round, and will face the San Diego Padres in the NLDS starting Tuesday.

Buehler will once again toe the rubber in Game 1 of the series after earning the start in the first game against the Brewers. The right-hander worked 4.0 innings, while surrendering two earned runs on three hits and striking out eight to help the Dodgers to a 4-2 victory in the opening game.

The other NLDS matchup will feature the duo of Dansby Swanson and Kyle Wright, as the Atlanta Braves will square off against the Miami Marlins starting Tuesday. The Braves swept the Cincinnati Reds in the wild card round, while Wright was projected to be Atlanta’s third starter in the rotation. Wright will get the ball in game three of the NLDS, which was announced by the Braves on Sunday afternoon.

Teammates Mike Minor and Tony Kemp will round out the Commodores in the divisional round as the Oakland Athletics will matchup against the Houston Astros. The Athletics defeated the Chicago White Sox last round by winning the deciding game three.

Seven former Commodores were named to postseason rosters, marking the most of any school. Additionally, Vanderbilt had 25 connections in the MLB playoffs between players and staff.
