  • Vanderbilt opened its 135th year of organized football
  • Vanderbilt opened its second-straight season at home, while it is the third time the Dores have began a campaign at home during under head coach Clark Lea
  • Virginia Tech won the coin toss and elected to defer
  • Richie Hoskins, Langston Patterson and CJ Taylor represented the Commodores at midfield
  • Ahead of Saturday’s game, Vanderbilt announced a sell out. Attendance in the home opener was 28,934
  • It marks the first sellout in the home opener for Vanderbilt since 2019, when a contest with Georgia sold out Week 1
  • It also marks the first sell out of a nonconference game at FirstBank Stadium since 2017 versus Kansas State

  • Graduate Diego Pavia collected 294 total yards in his Vanderbilt debut, throwing for 190 yards with two touchdowns and added 104 yards on the ground with a score
  • Diego Pavia is the first Commodore to throw for over 100 yards and rush more than 100 yards since Mike Wright accomplished the feat at Kentucky (184 passing yds, 126 rushing yds) on Nov. 12, 2022
  • Diego Pavia becomes the first Dore to rush for over 100 yards in a game since Ray Davis‘ 122-yard performance on the ground against Florida on Nov. 19, 2022
  • Diego Pavia is the first Vanderbilt player to collect three touchdowns in a game since  three-score performance against Missouri on Sept. 30, 2023
  • Vanderbilt opened the season with a 43-yard field goal by sophomore Brock Taylor, the first of his career, to cap an 11-play, 50-yard drive spanning 6:33 minutes
  • Freshman Glenn Seabrooks III grabbed his first collegiate interception off a pass tipped by sophomore Bryan Longwell at the midway point of the first quarter
  • Glenn Seabrooks III is the first Vandy defensive lineman with a pick since Nate Clifton last season vs. Alabama A&M
  • Sophomore Bryan Longwell finished with a career-best nine tackles, topping his previous career high of seven last season at Florida
  • Captian Langston Patterson led the defense with 10 tackles, marking the fifth consecutive game leading the Commodore defense dating back to last season at Ole Miss
  • Today’s 10 tackles from Langston Patterson marks just the second time in Patterson’s career with 10+ touchdowns in a single game
  • Senior Quincy Skinner Jr. registered his first touchdown of the year off a 14-yard pass from Diego Pavia. Dating back to last season, this marks three consecutive game with a touchdown from Skinner
  • Junior Linus Zunk’s finished with 2.0 sacks against Virginia Tech marks the first time a Commodore has had multiple sacks in a game since CJ Taylor had two at Wake Forest (9/9/23)
  • Brock Taylor’s 53-yard field goal in the third quarter, tied for the fifth-longest field goal in program history. It is the longest field goal since since Joseph Bulovas‘ 53-yarder in the season-opener vs. ETSU in 2021.
  • Sophomore Sedrick Alexander recorded his second career game with multiple touchdowns with two scores against the Hokies. Alexander ran a 7-yard score in the second quarter and added an 8-yard touchdown reception to tie the game at 27-all in the fourth quarter
  • Sedrick Alexander ran for a touchdown and hauled in a touchdown reception in the same game for the first time in his career
