BELMONT NOTES

  • With the victory Belmont improves to 2-1 in the NCAA Regional in its first-ever trip to the postseason in the Division I era for the school. Belmont takes on Vanderbilt Sunday at 7 p.m. The Bruins must defeat the Commodores twice to advance to the Super Regionals.
  • BU starter Nate Woods won his fifth consecutive decision with five-plus innings of work, allowing one run on four hits with one walk and one strikeout. The senior improved his season record to 7-5 on the year.
  • Bruins closer Jon Ivie added to his single-season total for saves, working a perfect ninth inning to post his 15th save of the year. Ivie also tied Bradford Vieria (1994-97) and Chris Manning (2006-08) for the career saves record at BU with 25.

TROY UNIVERSITY NOTESWith the loss Troy ends its season 43-19 overall and drops to 3-9 all-time in NCAA Regionals in five trips.Troy entered the tournament leading the nation in doubles and ranking second in doubles per game, but the Trojans collected only three extra-base hits in three contests, all doubles (Adam Bryant – 1 and T.J. Rivera – 2).The Trojans stranded 12 runners in the loss and 28 in the three contests in the tournament, collecting nine hits in 30 at-bats (.300) in the tourney with runners in scoring position. They were just 3-for-12 with runners in scoring position against Belmont.
