– Wednesday’s game marks the first career meeting between Illinois-Chicago and Vanderbilt
– Vanderbilt started center A.J. Ogilvy, forwards Darshawn McClellan and Jeffery Taylor and guards Jermaine Beal and Brad Tinsley
– Beal leads the team with 42 career starts, including 37 straight, while Ogilvy made his 40th start. Ogilvy has now started in 40 of 41 career games including all seven this season. The only game Ogilvy didn’t start was senior night last season against Mississippi State. Taylor made his seventh start of his career while Tinsley is making his fifth consecutive start. McClellan made his fourth start of the season and sixth of his career.
First Half Notes:
– Illinois-Chicago won the opening tip
– With AJ Ogilvy’s three-pointer at the 18:49 mark in the first half, Vanderbilt extended its streak of consecutive games (705) with a three-pointer, dating back to when the three-point line was established in the 1986-87 season. The Commodores streak ranks second only to UNLV (713) for the longest streak in Division I basketball.
– UIC jumped out to a 15-8 advantage after Josh Mayo’s three-point basket with 14:21 remaining in the first half
– Ogilvy made his third consecutive three-pointer at the 18:49 mark. He was 2-2 from beyond the arc against VCU (11/30/08). Prior to the VCU game Ogilvy was 0-5 in his career.
– Vanderbilt’s Steve Tchiengang scored his first points of his collegiate career with a lay-in at the 10:45 mark in the first half
– Vanderbilt went on a 6-0 run to narrow UIC lead to one (15-14) with 9:21 remaining in the half.
– With Beal’s two free throws, Vanderbilt tied the game (18-18) with 7:46 to go in the first half. The tie was the only one of the game. Vanderbilt’s only lead of the first half came at the 17:02 mark (7-6)
– UIC went on an 11-0 run to take its largest lead of the game (29-18) with four minutes to go in the half.
– Vanderbilt’s nine-point deficit at the half is the largest of the season. The only time Vanderbilt had trailed at halftime prior to tonight was when they trailed Illinois by one. The nine-point deficit at the half is the largest since Vanderbilt trailed Siena by 12 in the first round of the NCAA Tournament.
– Vanderbilt and UIC each pulled down 20 rebounds in the first half
– Last season Vanderbilt’s largest deficit at home at the half was two points against Tennessee State (12/27/07)
– Vanderbilt committed 10 first half turnovers while UIC only had four
– Vanderbilt was 1-of-8 (13%) from beyond the arc in the first half while UIC was 5-11 (46%)
Second Half Notes:
– UIC opened the second half on a 5-0 to expand its lead to 14 points (38-24).
– With Josh Mayo’s three-pointer at the 15:17 mark in the second half, UIC increased its lead to 15 (46-31)
– UIC went on a 16-4 run to push its lead to 24 points (65-41) with 8:01 remaining in the game
– Vanderbilt went on an 12-0 run to cut the Flames lead to 12 (65-53) with 4:25 remaining in the game.
Postgame Notes:
– With the loss, Vanderbilt falls to 5-2 while Illinois-Chicago improves to 4-2
– The 19-point loss was the worst home loss since the Commodores lost to Kentucky by 22 (74-52) back on January 14, 2003. The loss was the worst home loss to a non-conference opponent since Vanderbilt fell by 21 points (89-68) to Stanford on December 30, 1988.
– With the loss, Vanderbilt falls to 3-7 all-time against the Horizon League.
– Vanderbilt gave up a season-high 74 points to UIC
– Vanderbilt shot 20-59 (34%) from the field while UIC was 30-67 (45%). The 34 percent field goal percentage is a season-low for the Commodores
– Vanderbilt had three players score in double figures. Jeffery Taylor and A.J. Ogilvy led Vanderbilt with 14 points a piece while Brad Tinsley added 11. Ogilvy and Tinsley have scored in double figures in all seven games this season, while Taylor has scored in double figures six times in seven games.
– Vanderbilt shot a season-low 4-24 (17%) from three-point range while UIC was 12-19 (63%) from beyond the arc. The twelve three-pointers by UIC is the most an opponent has had against Vanderbilt this season.
– Vanderbilt was outrebounded 39-38. The Commodores are 0-2 when being out rebounded by its opponent.
– Vanderbilt committed 16 turnovers in the game while UIC had 11
– Ogilvy blocked a season-high four shots in the loss
