– Vanderbilt started center A.J. Ogilvy, forwards Steve Tchiengang and Jeffery Taylor and guards Jermaine Beal and Brad Tinsley
– Beal leads the team with 46 career starts, including 41 straight, while Ogilvy made his 44th start. Ogilvy has now started in 44 of 45 career games including all seven this season. The only game Ogilvy didn’t start was senior night last season against Mississippi State. Taylor made his 11th start of his career while Tinsley is making his ninth consecutive start. Steve Tchiengang made the fourth start of his career.
First Half Notes:
– Tennesse Tech won the opening tip
– Jeffery Taylor scored six of Vanderbilt’s first eight points
– Trailing 9-8 at the first media timeout (14:13), Lance Goulbourne came off the bench to score five consecutive points for the Commodores, giving them 13-9 lead with 13:01 remaining in the half. Goulbourne’s points were a part of Vanderbilt 8-0 run.
– With Jermaine Beal’s three-pointer at the 8:01 mark in the first half, Vanderbilt extended its streak of consecutive games (709) with a three-pointer, dating back to when the three-point line was established in the 1986-87 season. The Commodores streak ranks second only to UNLV (716) for the longest streak in Division I basketball.
– Leading 33-29 with 2:47 remaining, Vanderbilt closed out the half on a 7-0 run to take a 40-29 lead into the locker room.
– Vanderbilt shot 16-31 (51.6%) from the field during the first half.
– Vanderbilt’s defense held Tennessee Tech to 29.4% (10-34) shooting in the first half
– Taylor led Vanderbilt with nine points in the first half. Ogilvy added eight while Goulbourne chipped in seven points and five rebounds in the first half.
– Brad Tinsley and Jermaine Beal added six points a piece in the first half on a combined 4-6 from beyond the arc.
– The 40 points in the first half is the third most for Vanderbilt this season. They scored 48 against Central Arkansas (11/26) and 41 versus Alabama A&M (12/10)
– Vanderbilt had 22 points in the paint in the first half while Tennessee Tech had 14. Vanderbilt tallied nine bench points during the first half, Goulbourne had seven of the nine.
– There were three lead changes during the first half
Second Half Notes:
– Leading 50-39 at 13:21 mark in the second half, Vanderbilt went on a 9-0 run to push its lead to 59-39 with 11:40 remaining in the game. The 20-point lead was the largest of the game.
Postgame Notes:
– With the win, Vanderbilt improves to 8-3 while Tennessee Tech falls to 6-4.
– Vanderbilt now leads the all-time series 14-6 over the Golden Eagles. VU is now 12-1 against Tennessee Tech in games played in Nashville.
– Vanderbilt improves to 54-8 all-time against teams from the Ohio Valley Conference. The Commodores are 2-0 against OVC teams this season, (def. Morehead State, 74-48 in season opener on 11/16)
– A.J. Ogilvy went over the 20-point plateau for the third time this season by posting 20 points. Ogilvy has scored at least 20 points in 14 games during his young career. The Sydney, Australia native has scored in double figures in every game this season.
– Four Commodores scored in double figures; Ogilvy (20), Tinsley (15), Taylor (14) and Drake (12). It marks the ninth time this season that Taylor has scored in double figures while Tinsley has scored in double digits eight times.
– George Drake’s 12 points is the second most points he has scored all season. His previous high came against Central Arkansas when he posted career highs in points (14), rebounds (8) and assists (6)
– Vanderbilt shot an impressive 19-of-24 (79.2%) from the free throw line. Ogilvy was a perfect 8-8 from the charity stripe. Tinsley was also perfect from the line, going 4-for-4. Tennessee Tech was just 12-of-25 (48%) from the free throw line.
– Vanderbilt was 28-57 (49.1%) from the floor for the game while Tennessee Tech was 23-69 (33.3%).
– Vanderbilt outrebounded the Golden Eagles 46-40, including 26-18 in the second half. The Commodores are 8-0 when outrebounding its opponent this season.
– Taylor and Lance Goulbourne led the team with seven boards apiece while Ogilvy and Tchiengang pulled down six boards. The seven rebounds for Goulbourne and six rebounds for Tchiengang marked career highs.
– Vanderbilt’s starting guards Beal and Tinsley were a combined 6-9 from downtown.
– Tennessee Tech was led by Daniel Northern’s 14 points and 18 rebounds. The 18 rebounds is the most rebounds an opponent has pulled down against Vanderbilt since Alabama’s Roy Rogers had 20 rebounds against the Commodores (1/3/1996).
– Vanderbilt recorded 23 bench points in the win. The 23 bench points are the most since the Commodores had 23 bench points against Central Arkansas (11/26).
– Vanderbilt committed 17 turnovers, including 11 in the second half while Tennessee Tech had 13 total turnovers. Tennessee Tech recorded 14 fast break points compared to only two for Vanderbilt.
