Vanderbilt Head Coach Geoff Macdonald:
On the 4-0 victory:
“The doubles point was really close and we were fortunate to get that. Tennessee has some injuries they are dealing with. They are always a great team. After we got the doubles point and got the default at No. 6 singles, we won pretty easily, which is rare for a Vanderbilt-Tennessee match.”
On Vanderbilt maintaining its focus after taking a 2-0 lead:
“Sometimes it’s a difficult situation because you assume you’ve won and you let up a little and all of a sudden you’re in some real nightmare matches. Taka Bertrand and Amanda Taylor did a great job of taking care of business and not letting Tennessee get any momentum at all.”
On facing Florida in the semifinals:
“Florida is a great team. They have a storied program. We’ve had a couple of wins over them but they’ve come out on top more often than we have. We think we’re a really, really good team. It will be a big match for us to see if we can make a step and advance to the finals.”
Vanderbilt Players:
Senior Amanda Taylor:
On the win:
“It was nice to get the win today. We know how good Tennessee is as a team. I feel like we prepared really efficiently and everyone was ready to go. It feels good to move into the semifinals.”
On keeping her focus in her singles match:
“I think I just tried to be really businesslike out there because I know what a good player she is, banged up or not. I really just tried to maintain focus and I felt like I was able to do that today.”
Senior Taka Bertrand:
On the victory:
“I think it was good that we got the match over quickly. We were fortunate to go into singles up 2-0. I think we have to get ready to play Florida and rest up. We’ll be ready to go tomorrow.”
On having a first round bye:
“It was huge for us to get a bye. To get through this match quickly was very important too because we want to get a lot of rest for tomorrow.”
