PENSACOLA, Fla. – Fifth-seeded Vanderbilt will face 12th-seeded Alabama in the opening round of the SEC Tournament on Sunday evening. The match is set for 7 p.m. at the Brosnaham Soccer Complex and can be seen on SEC Network.
The Dores finished the regular season 9-2-6 (4-2-4 SEC) and return to the beach for the 24th time in program history and ninth time under head coach Darren Ambrose. Vandy faces Alabama for the fourth time in conference tournament action.
Vanderbilt and Alabama (9-5-5, 2-3-5) last met in the postseason in 2022, with a 2-1 decision favoring the Tide. The match was tied 1-1 heading into the 89th minute. With just 38 seconds left in regulation, an Alabama forward and Vandy defender raced for a ball in the box. Both players went down and the official ruled a penalty kick for the Crimson Tide. The Tide converted to eliminate the Dores.
The two teams met this season in the regular season finale in Music City with Vanderbilt coming on top 3-1. Goals from Ella Eggleston, Caroline Betts and Courtney Jones secured the Dores to a nine-win season for the eighth time under Ambrose.
