Hawkins Field began its transformation this week from a natural grass playing surface to a new synthetic surface.

Workers began tearing up the natural grass in the outfield on Tuesday before moving to the infield later in the week. Home plate has already been removed along with the ‘Vanderbilt’ script on the old turf behind home plate.

Construction crews will continue to remove the old playing surface next week as part of the nearly nine-week process in transforming the field to turf.
