GAINESVILLE, Fla. — No. 13 Vanderbilt women’s tennis was held in check by No. 17 Florida on Friday, falling 4-0 to the Gators at the Alfred A. Ring Tennis Complex.
It was the first shutout loss for the Commodores in SEC play this season. Vanderbilt (19-7, 9-5 SEC) dropped just its eighth doubles point of the season after defeats at Courts 2 and 3. The black and gold move to 2-6 this year when failing to secure the opening advantage.
Florida (14-6, 9-5 SEC) extended its momentum into singles play, snatching five first sets. The Gators allowed no momentum shifts the way of Vanderbilt, moving ahead 2-0 after a victory at No. 2 singles. Despite No. 24 Valeria Ray forcing a third set at No. 3 singles and multiple other Dores holding leads in the second set, Florida ultimately slammed the door on Vandy. The Gators notched wins from Lucie Pawlak and India Houghton to clinch the match. The result ends back-to-back wins for the Commodores in the series.
No. 13 Vanderbilt rounds out its regular season with a visit to No. 4 Auburn (28-3, 12-2 SEC) on Sunday at the Yarbrough Tennis Center. For more information, updates and exclusive match day content, follow the Vanderbilt women’s tennis team, @VandyWTennis, on Instagram and X.
