Vanderbilt’s College World Series central | Omaha on our mind, June 13 | June 14
We are less than 24 hours from departure to Omaha, and the departure time can’t come soon enough for the Commodores. After clinching a trip to the College World Series on Saturday, the team has had plenty of time to reflect on their accomplishment, but are now ready to take that next step.
“Getting to Omaha isn’t the end for us, the end for us now is the national championship,” said starter Grayson Garvin. “Our first step toward doing that is when we play North Carolina.”
The Commodores will depart Vanderbilt’s campus before most will have begun their day. The bus will NOW leave from the west side of Memorial Gym by the Parmer Field House at approximately 6:45 a.m. Thursday morning. If you are looking for a place to enjoy your morning coffee, make the trip over to campus to send the team off to Omaha.
Once departing campus, the team will head to the airport where they will board a charter flight to Omaha. The total flight time will be less than two hours.
Missouri River Flooding
First, do not panic. If you’ve followed the news recently, you are likely aware that the Missouri River, which borders Nebraska and Iowa, is flooding. The flooding in the area should not prevent you from driving to Omaha, but it will be important to monitor the situation in case there are future road closings.
TD Ameritrade Park has not been affected by the flooding.

What time is it there?
Those not used to watching the College World Series or are unfamiliar with summers in the Midwest, may be a little perplexed when you turn on the television to watch the CWS any given night. Yes Omaha is on central time, but no, that game you are watching at 9 p.m. is live and not tape delayed. Unlike Nashville where the sun sets a little after 8 p.m. this time of year, sunset in Omaha is not until 9 p.m., meaning it will be well after 9 p.m. before it is completely dark.
Road to Omaha Statue
Nothing is more synonymous with the College World Series than The Road to Omaha statue. The statue sat in front of Rosenblatt Stadium since 1999 and has now been moved to the front of TD Ameritrade Park. The statue is one of the most photographed statues in all of sports.
One Wednesday morning, the Road to Omaha statue was rededicated and 13th street was temporarily renamed College World Series Avenue.
Four BA All-Americans
Baseball America announced on Wednesday that four Commodores were named All-Americans. Recognized were Grayson Garvin, Sonny Gray, Jason Esposito and Aaron Westlake.
