The weight room was waiting on Day 2 of the Omaha Challenge for the Commodores with four exercises on the list.
First up was the dumbbell press with position players pushing 70-pound weights and the pitchers pressing 60-pound weights. Kyle Smith breezed to victory on the position player side with 31 reps while Jordan Sheffield’s 28 reps nipped Ben Bowden by one for the pitcher’s title.
Sit ups were next with athletes given 90 seconds to complete as many reps as possible. Penn Murfee, Ro Coleman and freshman Ethan Paul ran away from the field with all three going over 90 sit ups. Murfee took the top spot with an amazing 96. No one was close to Sheffield as he claimed the pitcher’s competition with 86 sit ups.
Next up was pull ups with as many reps in 90 seconds the goal. Freshman Kiambu Fentress slipped by Coleman to take the pull ups title with 37 just ahead of Coleman’s 36. Sheffield made it three-for-three on the pitcher’s side with 16 reps to be top man.
The final event of the day was the plate pinch, where competitors used their non-dominant hand to hold a 45-pound weight with one hand for as long as possible. Liam Sabino cruised to victory by holding the 45-pound plate for 83 seconds to pick up the position players title. Matt McGarry earned the pitchers crown, holding the plate 76 seconds.
On the schedule for Day 3, tire flip, weighted sled drag and 100-pound shuttle.
