NASHVILLE, Tenn. — Vanderbilt football’s offensive line is one of 10 units in the country that has been named a semifinalist for the annual Joe Moore Award.
The recognition comes after the group has helped the Commodores rank among the national and SEC leaders in multiple statistical categories as part of an 8-2 start that currently has Vandy among the top 15 in both the Associated Press and AFCA coaches’ polls.
The efforts of the line—Isaia Glass, Bryce Henderson, Cade McConnell, Chase Mitchell and Jordan White have been the five starters all season—have been key as the Dores have earned their highest AP rank since the 1937 season, appeared in the organization’s poll a school-record eight weeks this fall and defeat three top-15 opponents for the first time in program history.
Behind the Commodore line, the team is averaging more than 185 yards rushing, 255 passing and 440 overall per game while scoring 38.3 points per outing. In addition to leading the SEC with a 53.3 third-down conversion rate—a figure that is third in the country—and team passing efficiency, and standing second in scoring offense, Vanderbilt is also among the top five in the conference in both rushing and passing offense, tackles for loss and sacks allowed, and total first downs recorded.
At the current rate, it will be the highest scoring and total offense averages posted by Vandy’s offense since at least 1946.
The unit’s work has allowed the Dores to record 72 explosive plays (runs of 12-plus and passes of 16 or more yards) per TruMedia, a figure that is second in the nation.
Vanderbilt is off this weekend and will next be in action on Nov. 22 when the Commodores take on Kentucky. The final home game of the regular season will get underway at 2:30 p.m. at FirstBank Stadium.
