Four Players to Join in Rajaan Bennett Recognition
Four first-year players from the Atlanta area will join Vice Chancellor David Williams in a special ceremony honoring Rajaan Bennett early in the first quarter Saturday.
Williams and the four players -Andrew Bridges, Chris Boyd, Grant Ramsay and Kyle Woestmann – will present Narjaketha Bennett with a portrait painted by Atlanta native Jessi Reel. The portrait was commissioned by parents of Vanderbilt’s 2010 signing class.
Bennett, the 2009 Georgia high school offensive player of the year as a senior at McEachern High School north of Atlanta, died from gunfire two weeks after signing with the Commodores.
The Bennett family will be guests of the Vanderbilt football team Saturday.
Looking for Homecoming Win Saturday
The Commodores look to improve on their homecoming results Saturday when nationally ranked South Carolina visits Vanderbilt Stadium.
Vanderbilt, 25-36-3 overall in homecoming games since 1946, is just 1-9 in its last 10 appearances. The last homecoming win over an SEC opponent came against South Carolina in 1998.
Stewart Could Start at Center
With six-game starter Joey Bailey nursing an injury, true freshman Logan Stewart from Boiling Springs, S.C., could start at center against the Gamecocks. He would be one of three Commodore starters with South Carolina roots in the lineup Saturday, joining offensive guard Kyle Fischer (Columbia) and placekicker Ryan Fowler (Taylors).
Seeking Consecutive Home Wins over Gamecocks
The Commodores have never registered consecutive home wins against the Gamecocks. They’ll accomplish the feat Saturday with a victory.

The event will take place at the Watermark, located in the Gulch at 507 12th Avenue South. General admission tickets are $60 each, with VIP passes going for $150. It is scheduled from 8:30-11:30 p.m. Patrons also get free admission to an after-party event at the Tin Roof.

“It was a traumatic event for me when I was told, but it has to be much worst when you discover this as a 5-or 6-year-old child,” Cutler said. “This foundation has given me the ability to give back, and help children with the process.”
