NASHVILLE, Tenn. — Vanderbilt women’s tennis is set to round out nonconference play on Friday as the Dores host Xavier and Lipscomb in a doubleheader at the Lummis Family Tennis Center.
The Commodores held strong in the updated ITA individual rankings with four singles players and three doubles pairs. Junior Valeria Ray remained at No. 15 atop Vandy’s ranked singles list. Behind Ray is graduate Célia-Belle Mohr, who came in at No. 34, with senior Bridget Stammel following at No. 42 and freshman Mia Yamakita at No. 69. Mohr and sophomore Sophia Webster climbed back up to No. 2 in the doubles rankings. Ray and Stammel joined the Commodore duo in the top 10 as No. 10 and Yamakita along with freshman Erin Pearce are No. 64.
Xavier (2-3) returns to Nashville after suffering a 4-0 defeat to Vandy in the opening round of last season’s NCAA Tournament. The Musketeers have won two of their last three matches, picking up wins over Gonzaga and Northern Kentucky. The two teams hold one common opponent, Notre Dame, who downed Xavier 6-1 on Feb. 1. Vanderbilt leads the all-time series 2-0; the other meeting with the Musketeers also came in the first matchup of the NCAA Tournament, a 4-0 Commodore victory in 2022.
Lipscomb (3-1) makes the short trip to West End for the second match of Friday’s doubleheader. The Bisons were handed their first loss of the season last Saturday, 4-3, by East Tennessee State. Vanderbilt and Lipscomb have also only met twice, with both meetings resulting in 7-0 wins favoring the black and gold.
Vanderbilt and Xavier will begin play at 11 a.m., with the Commodores’ contest against Lipscomb expected to start at 4 p.m. Streaming will be available online with live stats accessible via IonCourt.
