NASHVILLE, Tenn. — No. 11 Vanderbilt men’s basketball sets its sights on a perfect nonconference slate when the Commodores host New Haven on Monday night. Tipoff is set for 6 p.m. at Memorial Gymnasium with the game streaming on SEC Network+.

NICKEL MINTING THREES

  • Tyler Nickel ranks seventh in the country with 45 made threes on the season and seventh in threes per game at 3.75. Both marks lead the SEC.
  • The flamethrower sits 20th nationally, connecting on 47.9 percent of his three-point attempts.
  • Nickel blitzed Wake Forest with an 8-of-10 onslaught from three-point range, marking the second game with eight threes in the past three contests.
  • The senior dropped a career-high 30 points in the win over Central Arkansas.
  • Nickel also set career highs with 10 made field goals and eight made threes.
  • He joins Shan Foster as the only Commodores to hit eight threes in multiple games in a single season.
  • Nickel became the first Dore to hit eight threes in a game since current Grizzlies’ guard Scotty Pippen Jr.

12-0 COMMODORES

  • Vanderbilt is 12-0 for the first time since the 2007-08 season.
  • It is only the third time in the 124-year history of Vanderbilt basketball the Commodores have started the season 12-0 (2007-08, 2003-04).
  • 2007-08 stands as the best start in program history at 16-0.
  • A win on Monday would mark just the second time the Dores have ever reached 13-0.

ROLLING ON THE ROAD

  • Vanderbilt hit the holiday break with a 98-67 rout of Wake Forest.
  • Tyler Nickel drained eight threes for the second time in the past three games to spark the blowout with 26 points.
  • Duke Miles matched a career high with nine assists, his second game with nine dimes this season.
  • Vandy went wire-to-wire against the Demon Deacons, shooting 59.3 percent from the field and 50 percent from three. The Dores’ 16 threes were the second most of the season.
  • The road win marked the third of the season for the Commodores, making Vandy the only high major team to go 3-0 on the road in nonconference action.

NEW HAVEN CONNECTIONS

  • Vanderbilt meets New Haven for the first time as the transitioning DI program comes to Memorial Gymnasium to close nonconference action.
  • New Haven President, Jens Frederiksen, earned bachelor’s degrees in political science, history, economics and philosophy from Vandy. He was also a member of the men’s tennis team while on West End.
