CORAL GABLES, Fla. – The Vanderbilt women’s tennis team concluded its final individual tournament of the preseason, competing against Kentucky, Miami and Ohio State in the Miami Spring Invitational.
The Commodores went 5-3 in singles, with two of their three ranked players earning quality victories for the black and gold. Fourth-ranked Fernanda Contreras defeated Ohio State’s Anna Sanford in three sets, 6-2, 5-7, 6-4. No. 96 Summer Dvorak earned her second win of the tournament, rebounding from a first set loss to down Danielle Wolff, 2-6, 6-2, 6-2. Other singles victors include; Emma Kurtz, Amanda Meyer and Emily Smith.
In tandems, VU changed up pairings and went 1-3 on the final day of competition. Emma Kurtz and Summer Dvorak blew past Kentucky’s Diana Tkachenko and Mami Adachi; 6-2.
Vanderbilt will begin the dual match season at home as the Commodores host Florida State, Virginia and Nebraska in the ITA Kickoff Weekend. Vandy faces Nebraska on Friday at 3 p.m. CT.
