NASHVILLE, Tenn. – The No. 11 Vanderbilt Commodores takeoff to the west-coast this weekend as they face No. 12 University of Southern California Saturday at 2 p.m., and No. 10 Stanford Sunday at 12 p.m. CT.
The Commodores are coming off a productive trip to the ITA National Team Indoor Championships, where the ‘Dores gained invaluable experience all while taking down then No. 4 Duke in consolation play.
During last week’s tournament play sophomore Astra Sharma earned her first ranked win as a Commodores. The Perth, Australia native is on a five-match win streak, her longest run so far at Vandy.
With the latest ITA rankings coming out on Feb. 10th the Commodores currently boast four ranked singles players in the top-90 and two ranked doubles teams in the top-35.
Sophomore Sydney Campbell leads VU as the No. 15 player in the country. Rounding out the singles rankings are No. 62 Marie Casares, No. 71 Courtney Colton and No. 89 Frances Altick.
In doubles action Campbell and Colton makeup the No. 18 doubles team. Seniors Ashleigh Antal and Marie Casares are the No. 32 tandem in the country.
The Trojan contingent is also comprised of four ranked players. During tournament season, Campbell and USC’s top-ranked No. 22 Giuliana Olmos squared off with the Commodores coming out on top; 6-4, 6-3. Southern Cal is also the home to two top-25 doubles teams. Vanderbilt’s very own Ellie Yates returns to California after transferring from USC last year.
Stanford is currently undefeated and has not lost the doubles point so far this season. Stanfordis home to two highly touted doubles teams in No. 5 Carol Zhao/Taylor Davidson and No. 12 Caroline Doyle/Ellen Tsay. In the latest edition of the national rankings four singles players were featured from Stanford: Carol Zhao (10), Taylor Davidson (14), Caroline Doyle (16) and Krista Hardebeck (92).
