NASHVILLE, Tenn. – While Nashville may be engulfed in snow, the Commodores’ first dual match of the spring is still on as Vandy now takes on Denver Saturday at 11:00 am. Penn State and Brown will also compete an hour later at 3:00 pm CT.
For the second year in a row the No. 1 Commodores earned the honor as one of 15 host sites for the annual ITA Kickoff Weekend.
This season VU welcomes three teams used to the snow, as No. 55 Brown, Denver and No. 49 Penn State make their way to West End. Vandy swept both Harvard and Texas at home in the Currey Tennis Center last season, earning a trip to ITA Team National Indoors. The determined squad hopes to accomplish the feat again.
Vanderbilt has appeared in Team National Indoors three years in a row, and with the squad looking to keep its attendance alive the ‘Dores will look to its three Oracle/ITA ranked singles players for stability.
Frances Altick leads the trio with a career-high ranking of No. 15 in the country. All-American Sydney Campbell follows at No. 24, with NCAA and SEC MVP Astra Sharma rounding it out at No. 33.
In doubles action VU’s Courtney Colton and Sydney Campbell own the No. 11 spot in the nation.
The Denver Pioneer have one ranked singles player in their arsenal, as Julia O’Loughlin comes in at No. 62. In doubles, O’Loughlin is joined by Maureen Slattery as the duo are ranked 53rd in the country. Neither Penn State nor Brown have singles players or doubles teams in last week’s rankings.
With winter storm Jonas affecting parts of the southeast, match times are subject to change. For the latest news check online at VUcommodores.com, or follow @VandyWTennis on twitter.
