NASHVILLE, Tenn. – Preseason accolades are rolling in for the Vanderbilt men’s golf team during the opening week of the 2026-27 season, as multiple publications have handed out numerous honors to the Commodores.
Hartman and Mawhinney Honored
A pair of Vandy underclassmen were selected with preseason All-America honors this week. NBC Golf Channel and Golfweek named freshman Tyler Mawhinney to their respective All-America third teams. Meanwhile, sophomore Will Hartman earned an honorable mention All-American selection from Golf Channel.
Both Commodore golfers got their 2026-27 season off to a strong start at the Visit Knoxville Collegiate. Hartman tied for fourth with a three-round score of 7-under 203. Mawhinney’s 65 in Round 2 marked the lowest 18-hole score for a Vanderbilt golfer on his debut day. It tied for the sixth-lowest 18-hole total recorded by a Commodore freshman. Mawhinney is just one of six Vandy freshmen golfers to ever card 65 or lower in a round.
Watch Out for These Freshmen
A pair of first-year golfers from Vanderbilt’s No. 1-ranked signing class have garnered preseason recognition. Luke Colton and Tyler Mawhinney were each named to Golf Channel’s preseason All-America freshman team. Both Commodore golfers were selected to the first team, which consisted of five total freshmen from across the country.
Preseason Polls
The preseason prognosticators project another strong season ahead for the Commodores in 2026-27. Vanderbilt is a consensus top-10 team in all three major men’s golf preseason rankings.
Vanderbilt came in at No. 4 in the Golfweek preseason men’s golf college rankings. At the same time, the Dores were selected No. 6 in the NBC Golf Channel preseason rankings and the GCAA Bushnell/Golfweek Division I Coaches preseason poll.
Vanderbilt returns to the course on Sept. 13-15 for the Inverness Intercollegiate in Toledo, Ohio.
