EUGENE, Ore. — Marta Sivina closed out competition at the NCAA Outdoor Track and Field Championships on Saturday, totaling 5,778 points in the heptathlon to finish 11th overall and earn second-team All-America honors at Hayward Field.
Sivina opened the day with a mark of 6.07 meters in the long jump, adding 871 points to her total. She followed with a personal-best throw of 34.65 meters in the javelin, earning 565 points. The senior ended the competition in the 800 meters, crossing the line in 2:13.26 to collect 917 points. Her performance brought her final total to 5,778 points.
Sivina becomes Vanderbilt's latest All-American, joining Falon Spearman, Elizabeth Bailey and the 4x400-meter relay team of Josie Donelson, Joy Moorer, Faith Franklin and Madyson Wilson, who also earned second-team All-America honors.
"Being out here and performing the way they have all season, then coming here and competing with pride, throwing with pride, jumping with pride and running with pride, it just says a lot about who we are as Commodores," Director of Cross Country and Track and Field Althea Thomas said. "It shows who we are as a track and field program and who we are as an athletic department."
