NASHVILLE, Tenn. — Vanderbilt freshman Paige Peters has been named the Southland Bowling League Newcomer of the Year, the league office announced Thursday.

Peters, who won the award based on votes from the League’s head coaches, had an exceptional season for the Commodores.

A graduate of Toms River High School in New Jersey, Peters immediately began competing for the Commodores in the fall and has become a regular starter in the Vandy lineup. Peters was the Southland Bowling League Newcomer of the Month in January, named the Northeast Classic Most Valuable Player and made the Hawk Classic and Stallings Invitational all-tournament teams.

Peters has shown her versatility by producing from both the anchor and lead-off position where her fill percentage from both spots is north of 89 percent. She is the top SBL newcomer in Player Composite Performance Index and frame scoring average (20.86) and ranks among the top 15 in the SBL in all but two major individual statistical categories.

The Southland Bowling League began presenting individual awards in 2019 and Peters is Vanderbilt’s first Newcomer of the Year honoree. Maria Bulanova was twice named SBL Bowler of the Year.
