NASHVILLE, Tenn. — Vanderbilt men’s tennis player Joubert Klopper has been named SEC Player of the Week, as announced by the league office Wednesday.

Klopper, a native of Bloemfontein, South Africa, is 7-0 in both doubles and singles play for the dual season. He helped the Commodores continue their winning streak this season with a pair of victories over ACC foe Virginia Tech 4-3 and a sweep over The Citadel.

The junior posted three victories in last Sunday’s doubleheader including wins in both singles matches. He currently sits at No. 94 in the ITA singles rankings.

Starting off the morning against the Hokies, Klopper clinched the match in a two-set thriller, 7-6 (2), 6-4, over Alvaro Ariza on Court 2.

In the afternoon against the Bulldogs, Klopper and partner Marcus Ferreira clinched a quick doubles point for the Dores after a 6-2 victory at the No. 2 spot. Klopper moved up to the top singles spot to defeat Hayden Shoemake in straight sets 6-2, 6-0.

Klopper and the Commodores are back in action this weekend hosting a pair of doubleheaders at the Currey Tennis Center. The Commodores are set to host a pair of Music City foes Friday with Belmont (2 p.m.) before returning to the courts for a 6 p.m. match against Tennessee State.

Vandy rounds out the weekend with a noon match Sunday against Big Ten foe Northwestern before a second dual against Tennessee State at 4 p.m.
