Women's Tennis Closes Day Two at Miami Spring Invite

CORAL GABLES, Fla. – Vanderbilt women’s tennis team wrapped up day two of the Miami Spring Invite with a perfect mark in doubles play.

The Commodores kicked off doubles play against Kentucky. No. 26-ranked duo Summer Dvorak and Christina Rosca competed against Wildcat pair Alexis Merrill and Anastasia Tkachenko, who were held to zero points in a quick 6-0 Vanderbilt win.

In only her third match as an official Commodore, freshman Georgia Drummy paired with junior Emma Kurtz to take down Kentucky’s Justina Mikulskyte and Brianna Tulloch, 6-2.

Following the doubles success, the Dores entered singles play against Miami with five players winning their respective matches.

No. 15 Rosca took on Miami’s No.7-ranked Perez-Somarriba, coming out strong on the first set and defeating the two-time all American, 6-2. Continuing her momentum, Rosca held the Hurricane to just three points in the second set, earning the upset over Somarriba, 6-2, 6-3.

“I just really tried to stay focused on my game and being aggressive, which is when I play my best tennis,” Rosca said. “I played a really clean match and I’m very excited about earning the upset.”

The Commodores will compete in the final day of the Miami Spring Invite on Sunday, taking the court against Northwestern in singles play followed by Miami in doubles.
