NASHVILLE – Vanderbilt attempts to extend its five-game winning streak on Thursday when Western Kentucky visits Nashville at 7:00 p.m. The Commodores (5-1) also travel to Georgia State on Sept. 9, for their first road game in three weeks.

“The kids are playing well,” head coach Darren Ambrose said. “We’ve closed some gaps and gotten better at a few things. I’m really pleased with their effort. The training has really been pretty good.”

The Commodores will try to make it six wins in a row as they wrap a five-game home stand. The winning streak would be the longest for the Dores since the 2005 season, when the team won 11 games in a row.

Vanderbilt is coming off a weekend in which it outscored opponents, 6-0. Kaylann Boyd and Haley Hopkins led the offensive attack with the two of them contributing five goals last weekend.

Hopkins scored the opening goal in both games. She scored a breakaway goal against St. Louis in the first half, and she found the back of the net off a header in the fourth minute against North Alabama. She also added a penalty kick goal against North Alabama to give her four goals this season and the first multi-goal game of her career.

Boyd contributed the second goal of the game against St. Louis in the 50thminute where she managed to beat the goalie to the ball and kicked it into the net. Her second goal of the weekend was off a penalty kick, and she is tied with Hopkins for the team lead in goals with four.

Boyd and Hopkins are each tied for fifth in the SEC in goals with four apiece. Hopkins is tied for the SEC lead with three game-winning goals.

Lauren Demarchi is another Commodore who has found herself among the SEC leaders. She is in sole possession of second in save percentage (92.9 percent) and ranks fifth in goals against average with a mark of 0.36.

Western Kentucky is 2-2-2 this season and its lone matchup against a fellow SEC school resulted in a 4-0 loss to Ole Miss. Georgia State is 2-3-1 this season, and it will face Georgia on Friday before taking on Vanderbilt.

Both games will be televised on SEC Network+.
