NCAA announces Graduation Success Rate standings for 2017-18 season

NASHVILLE - Vanderbilt Athletics finished with an overall Graduation Success Rate (GSR) of 97 during the 2017-18 academic year, best among Southeastern Conference institutions, the NCAA announced on Wednesday.

The Commodores finished with a department-wide GSR of 97, just ahead of South Carolina (94) and Missouri (91). Alabama, LSU and Mississippi State tied with GSRs of 89 to round out the top six programs. Moreover, 10 Vanderbilt programs finished with perfect GSRs (100). Last fall, the nationwide GSR for the 2016-17 academic year was 87.

The NCAA Graduation Success Rate tracks degree completion for student-athletes, even those who transfer. This year, the Commodores led or tied for the conference lead in GSR in 11 sports, including football with a score of 95.

"We're really proud of the fact that we've improved our GSR score while ranking as one of the top institutions in the nation," said David Williams, Vice Chancellor for Athletics and University Affairs and Athletics Director at Vanderbilt. "Our goal is always to strive for perfect scores, and everyday we continue to work towards that goal."
