Two Commodores set to face off in Championships of ITA Regionals

Chattanooga, Tenn. – The Commodores leave day four of the Ohio Valley ITA Regionals with two Vanderbilt teammates set to compete for the singles championship title of the tournament.

Opening up day four with four Dores competing against each other in the semifinals of singles play, Vanderbilt's No. 1 seed Christina Rosca took on VU's No. 30 seed Emily Smith for a berth in the final round.

In the first set, Smith controlled the court earning a 6-2 win over Rosca. Keeping her momentum in the second set, Smith was able to conquer the match in a straight-set win, 6-2, 6-2, advancing Smith to the championship round.

In the semifinal battle between two Commodores, No. 3 seed Amanda Meyer competed against No. 12 seed and freshman Carolyn Campana who is competing in her first regional semifinals as a Commodore.

The two Dores fought a close set opening up the match with Meyer clinching the victory against Campana, 7-6 (6).

In the second set, Meyer struck first setting the pace of the set with Campana earning four points before ultimately falling short to the Commodore sophomore in a 6-4 defeat. The win advanced Meyer to the championship round set to take on senior teammate Smith.

"It feels great to have made it to the final. I didn't have any expectations in terms of results coming into the tournament," said Smith. "My goal was just to get as much quality match play in as possible, so Monday's final is just one more opportunity to do that. It's really exciting that multiple Dores got to the late stages of the tournament, so I want to go out and enjoy playing against Amanda, have a great match and keep working on my game."

In doubles play, two Dore duos competed in the semifinals with Dvorak/Rosca earning a victory against SEC rivals Hammond/Schuck of Tennessee. Dominating the court in a straight-set win, 6-3, 7-5, the doubles pair advanced to the final round to take on No. 9 Lipscomb duo Dzyuba/Popova on Monday.

In Flight B, doubles pair Lauren Gish and Tennessee's Kylie Duckworth were set to take on Bandy/Tshatedi from Lipscomb in the semifinals round of doubles play. However, an injury forced the Lipscomb duo to withdraw from the match, earning Gish and Duckworth the championship title.

Vandy teammates Smith and Meyer compete Monday for the regionals singles championship title while duo Dvorak/Rosca take the courts for a shot at becoming the doubles champions.
