NASHVILLE—Head coach Darren Ambrose and the Vanderbilt soccer program announced Monday that fourth-year assistant coach Ken Masuhr has been elevated to associate head coach.
Masuhr has served as the Commodores’ recruiting coordinator and assistant coach since he arrived in Nashville alongside Ambrose in 2015. The duo spent the previous four seasons together at Penn, where Ambrose was the head coach for fifteen years. The upcoming season will be Masuhr’s fourth at Vanderbilt.
“What he’s done over time as a recruiting coordinator is really make it his own,” Ambrose said. “Deep down, he’s a networker. He’s a relationship guy and I think he really is invested in the people he recruits.”
Masuhr has led the Commodores’ recruiting efforts and coached the team’s defenders over the past three seasons since his February 2015 arrival.
“I’m happy to serve the program in any capacity that Darren sees fit,” Masuhr said. “I’m excited to continue the work we started just three years ago here in Nashville with an incredible staff, and I’m looking forward to our growth. We have something really special here and I couldn’t be happier.”
The Dores are coming off an historic season and postseason run in 2017, posting a record of 13-7-2 (6-3-1 SEC), reaching the NCAA Tournament for the first time since 2006 and winning an NCAA Tournament match for the first time since 1998.
“Balancing this crazy life with my wife Megan and two-year-old daughter Landon has been difficult,” Masuhr said. “I couldn’t have been able to make it all work without their unwavering support.”
The 2018 Vanderbilt soccer season begins in August.
