The Vanderbilt trio of Stephanie White, Minta Spears and Marqu’es Webb had the homecourt advantage, so to speak, at this year’s SEC Media Days.
Instead of boarding a plane or enduring a long bus ride, the Commodore threesome only had to make the short commute down West End Avenue on Thursday morning to represent Vanderbilt at the annual event, which was held this year at Bridgestone Arena.
White, the Commodores’ first-year head coach, was making her Media Day debut. The same was true for Spears, the senior guard. Webb, a senior post player, was the veteran of the group, appearing at the event for the third time.
Over the course of about two hours on Thursday, beginning at 9:15 a.m., the Vanderbilt trio stopped by a handful of interview rooms and filmed segments for ESPN and SEC Network. The day also included a stop in the Main Media room, where members of the local and national media had access to White, Spears and Webb.
White capped the day with a live appearance on the set of SEC Now. She was joined on set by SEC Network stars Maia Taylor, Andy Landers and Nell Fortner.
The Vanderbilt representatives wrapped up their duties at roughly 11:30 a.m., and then headed to lunch before making the short ride back to campus.
The Commodores now continue their preparations for the 2016-17 season. Vanderbilt will host a pair of preseason exhibitions — against Bellarmine on Oct. 30 and Union University on Nov. 6 — before hosting Kennesaw State on Nov. 11 in the season opener.
