NASHVILLE, Tenn. – Traveling to Milwaukee, Wisc. for a mid-week matchup against the 5-9 Marquette Golden Eagle, the Vanderbilt lacrosse team wraps up road play this Wednesday at 1:00 pm CT.
The ‘Dores head into their last road game with a 5-9 overall record and 1-4 conference slate. Vanderbilt comes off a hard 13-10 loss against the UConn Huskies Saturday afternoon.
Nine Commodores hit the road having scored in the double-digits this season. Redshirt-junior Kelly Chandler ranks nationally in scoring, coming at No. 45 with 34 goals on 67 shots this season. Senior Mallory Schonk has a team-high 39 points, with Jill Doherty leading the Commodores on the draw with 28.
Callahan Kent is currently tied at fourth in the nation in saves with 143. The junior starter averages 10.21 saves per game, which is seventh in the nation.
Marquette owns a 2-2-conference record, coming off a 12-10-comeback victory over the Temple Owls. The Golden Eagles’ first BIG EAST win came against Villanova, where the squad earned a 15-6 victory on the road.
MU fields six student-athletes who have scored in the double digits this season. Julia Shearer leads the squad in scoring with 26 goals and 30 points. The junior attacker has taken a team-high 56 shots this season and has 37 draws to her name.
Defensively, the Golden Eagles have worked with three goalies this season. Sarah Priem has the most in-game experience, competing in 12 games with 78 saves and 125 goals allowed.
In their last meeting, Vanderbilt picked up an 11-9 victory over Marquette in the squad’s last home game of the 2015 season.
