NASHVILLE, Tenn. – The No. 1 Vanderbilt women’s team participates this weekend in the USTA/ITA Women’s Ohio Valley Regional Championships, hosted by Purdue University in Lafayette, Indiana.

Heading into Friday’s main draw of singles play, the Dores claim the top-four seeds in Sydney Campbell, Astra Sharma, Courtney Colton and Frances Altick respectively.

Out of all 24 teams competing this season, the Commodores bring more ranked singles players to tournament competition then the rest of the region combined.

Last season the ‘Dores had an excellent singles showing with an All-Commodore semifinal. Then-No. 50, Campbell defeated Colton for the singles championship and opportunity to compete at National Indoors in Flushing, N.Y.

In doubles action head coach Geoff Macdonald and associate head coach Aleke Tsoubanos switched up pairings, with Colton and Sharma leading the Dores as the second-seeded pairing in tournament main draw and begin their journey Friday against ETSU’s qualifying team, Marina Guinart and Yi-Chi Ma.

Campbell and freshman Fernanda Contreras are the No. 4 seed and compete against qualifiers, Hitomi Naito and Burcu Tari of UT Martin in their first round of tournament action. At the No. 8 seed, Altick and fellow senior Ellie Yates look forward to playing their first match together, as the duo plays the Boilermakers’ Natalia Davila and Deborah Suarez on Friday.
