NASHVILLE, Tenn. –

The Commodores started off their weekend in Columbia, S.C. on the right foot, claiming second place in their quad-meet between South Carolina, Queens (N.C.), and Wingate.

“Overall I am pleased with today,” said Vandy head coach Jeremy Organ. “It was really great to see Rachel’s [Koch] 200 fly, that was a great race for her. Elly [Faulkner] had a great day as well. Her 200 IM was a super race for her.”

After the afternoon’s diving concluded, Vandy took third place in the fifth event of the day, the 200 free relay. Hannah Martin, Brenda Cha, Madeline Hunt, and Caroline Thomas swam to a top-three time of 1:36.54.

The Commodores success continued as Elly Faulkner posted a time of 2:04.85 in her second place finish of the 200 IM.

One of the most impressive performances of the day came from sophomore Kathryn Coughlin and Faulkner as both Commodores claimed first and second place respectively in the 100 Breaststroke. Only .05 of a second separated the two ‘Dores; Coughlin swam in at 1:04.42, and Faulkner at 1:04.49

Rachel Koch outswam the competition to take first place in the 200 Butterfly, coming in with a time of 2:02.82. Freshman Breanna Sapienza generted points for the ‘Dores after clinching third place (2:04.47).

In the last women’s race of the day the Commodores climbed to the top of the podium for the third time, taking first in the 400-medley relay. Martin, Coughlin, Sapienza and Cha teamed up finish out the day swimming a time of 3:49.63.
