ATHENS, Ga. – The Vanderbilt women’s soccer team opens Southeastern Conference play on the road this weekend, traveling to face SEC East rivals Georgia and Tennessee.
Vanderbilt (3-3-1) played five of its first seven regular season games on the road and boasts a 3-1-1 record away from Nashville. The Commodores will travel for their first four league contests as well. Vanderbilt is coming off a 4-1 victory over Western Kentucky in Bowling Green.
Georgia (4-3) was defeated by New Mexico at home last weekend and has been shutout in two straight games. Freshman Bella Hartley leads the Bulldogs with four goals scored this season.
Friday’s match marks the 20th meeting between Vanderbilt and Georgia. The Bulldogs have won the last five meetings to grab their first-ever advantage in the series, 10-9. Georgia head coach Steve Holeman previously led Ole Miss for 15 seasons. Current VU head coach Derek Greene spent seven seasons as an assistant and associate head coach under Holeman, and current VU assistant Christine Husni played for their Rebel squad.

Sunday’s game also marks the 20th meeting between cross-state rivals Vanderbilt and Tennessee. The Commodores hold a 9-8-2 edge in the series.
Tennessee (5-1-1) faces Alabama on Friday before welcoming the Commodores to Regal Soccer Stadium. The Lady Volunteers are riding a five-game winning streak and have been led in scoring by senior Amy Harrison this season.
