NASHVILLE – Despite holding No. 6 Florida to its lowest offensive output of the season, the 17th-ranked Commodore lacrosse team was unable to hand the Gators their first American Lacrosse Conference loss of the season and fell, 8-7, Sunday at the Vanderbilt Lacrosse Complex.

The game was tied 6-6 going into halftime, and a defensive battle ensued over the second 30 minutes. Senior Emily Franke gave the Commodores a 7-6 edge at the 27:17 mark on Vanderbilt’s third free-position goal of the game.

Vanderbilt would hold Florida scoreless for more than 20 minutes in the second half, but the Gators tied the game for the fifth time with 9:51 to play. The game-winning goal came with 30 seconds left and the Gators would win the resulting draw to run out the clock. It marked UF’s only draw control of the second half.

Sophomore goalkeeper Chelsea Pasfield stopped nine Florida shots on the day against only eight goals allowed.

Senior Katherine Denkler and junior All-American Ally Carey each scored two goals for the Commodores, with Franke and juniors Alex Priddy and Kendall Pittinger contributing the other scores.

Today’s game marked the second straight one-goal loss for the Commodores, who fall to 7-7 overall on the season.

Vanderbilt will close out the 2011 regular season by hosting Notre Dame on Wednesday, April 20. Prior to the game’s 1 p.m. opening draw, Vanderbilt will honor its six-member graduating senior class.
