NASHVILLE — The Vanderbilt women’s swimming team fell to Kentucky (229-65) and Western Kentucky (240-54) in its season-opener at the Centennial Sportsplex Pool in Nashville. The Commodores now stand at 0-2.

In other women’s action, Kentucky defeated Western Kentucky, 159-141, while on the men’s side the Wildcats edged the Hilltoppers, 159-141.

The Commodores got outstanding performances from a pair of freshmen, including Chrissy Oberg, who had the top finish of the day in the 200 yard backstroke. The rookie posted a time of 2:03.24, less than a second behind the winner. Oberg also placed fourth in the 100 yard backstroke, posting a time of 57.98.

Classmate Caroline Thomas picked-up a fourth-place finish in the 100 yard freestyle, recording a time of 52.22. Senior Laura Dillon put together a solid 200 yard backstroke, posting a time of 2:24.18 and placing fourth.

The Commodores return to action on Saturday, November 5, when they travel to New Orleans, La., to take on Tulane. The meet begins at 11:00 a.m.
