Commodore Notes
Vanderbilt improved to 11-1 on the year with an exciting midweek win over Western Kentucky and a series sweep over Brown… In the polls the Commodores stayed at #2 in Baseball America’s poll, Perfect Game’s poll and #3 in the Collegiate Baseball poll but dropped to #3 in the USA Today/ESPN Coaches’ poll… Sonny Gray was named SEC Pitcher of the Week for his performance against Brown… Vanderbilt slipped by WKU on Tuesday thanks to some late game heroics with pitcher Sonny Gray scoring the winning run from third base on a wild pitch in the bottom of the ninth to cap a two-run rally… Navery Moore picked up his first win of the year against the Hilltoppers… Gray dominated Brown on Friday night fanning a career-high 15 batters with no walks in a complete game 3-1 win… The complete game was his second of his career… Anthony Gomez drove in two runs in the bottom of the eighth inning to deliver the win; Gomez went 2-for-4 on the night… The Commodores and Bears were rained out on Saturday but played a doubleheader on Sunday… Grayson Garvin earned the win in the first game but the Dores had to hold off a late rally from Brown to earn a 6-5 win… VU committed a season-high four errors in the win… Aaron Westlake drove in two runs and went 2-for-5… Moore notched his fourth save of the year… Vandy had to rally late to beat Brown in the second game of the twin bill 6-3… Mark Lamm picked up is third win of the year in relief and Corey Williams earned the save in the seven-inning game… Westlake again paced the offense going 3-for-3 with a home run and two doubles.
