Vanderbilt Head Coach Kevin Stallings
Opening statement…
“I have to commend my team because we just found out after shootaround that we would be playing without Lance Goulbourne, and so I was very worried because we were already down a man at that position. I was very, very concerned, but Rod Odom and Joe Duffy came in and really played great for us. You can’t ask for anything more.”
“I thought we played hard. We played with purpose. The key to the game, and we thought this coming in, we had to move the ball and drive it. We knew they’d be up on us tight, and I thought we were able to do that and get to the foul line. That made a big difference for us.”
“I know they’ve struggled, but I think they have a good team. I like their team, and I thought both teams competed hard. I was just really proud of our team for playing the way we did and winning this game.”
On run to end first half…
“It was good because Middle Tennessee was making a run and really coming at us. We’d had a somewhat comfortable lead, and then they knocked it down into single digits. John Jenkins made a couple of big plays, we got a couple of transition baskets, and we made some free throws.”
On Festus Ezeli…
“Festus’ presence in this game was huge. He created foul problems for them the whole night. He didn’t make his free throws like we think he will, but I think he was really a dominant player in this game.”
