BIRMINGHAM, Ala. – Vanderbilt junior linebacker Patrick Benoist was named Southeastern Conference Defensive Player of the Week Monday for his performance in the Commodores’ 24-17 win over No. 24 South Carolina last Thursday.

A second-year starter, Benoist turned in a career-best performance with 15 total tackles, including a six-yard quarterback sack, a two-yard tackle for loss and a pass deflection against the Gamecocks.

His performance helped the Commodores limit South Carolina to a lone second half score and 325 total offensive yards.

Benoist is the second Commodore recognized by the conference this season for outstanding play. Quarterback Chris Nickson was selected as Offensive Player of the Week after the Commodores’ week one victory at Miami (Ohio).

Vanderbilt (2-0, 1-0 SEC) returns to action Saturday to host Rice (2-0, 2-0 C-USA). Tickets are still available for only $12. Call (615) 322-GOLD to reserve your seats today.
