FRANKLIN, Tenn. – Despite strong winds and cool temperatures to start the second round on Saturday, the UCLA Bruins took a commanding lead in the 2007 Mason Rudolph Championship after shooting a second-round 283, nine strokes better than second place Arizona State. For the tournament, the Bruins have a total of 564 (283-281), a tournament record for a two-round score, and lead second-place Arizona State by nine strokes (280-293=573). Host Vanderbilt is in 15th place after shooting a second round 301 (301-301=602).

The Bruins’ 283 tied the 2003 Duke team for the best second-round team total. Maria Jose Uribe led the way for UCLA after shooting a six-under 66 on Saturday, a new Mason Rudolph low for an individual in the second round.

Duke’s Amanda Blumenherst leads the individual portion of the tournament with a ten-under par, 134, a two-round Mason Rudolph record. Blumenherst shot a second-round 68 on Saturday after a 66 on Friday to take a two-stroke lead on Arizona State’s Anna Nordqvist, who sits at eight-under, 166. Blumeherst holds a five-stroke lead on third place Tiffany Joh of UCLA, who broke a Mason Rudolph Tournament record for a single round on Friday with a 65. Joh fired a two-over, 74, to post a two-round total of 139.

Junior Jacqui Concolino leads the way for Vanderbilt and is in a tie for 42nd place with a total of 150 (77-73); Concolino also posted a team-best 73 on Saturday. Other scores for the Commodores are Liebelei Lawrence with a 151 (72-79), Brooke Goodwin with a 152 (75-77), Megan Grehan with a 154 (77-77), and Amber Lundskog with a 154 (80-74). Julie Bartholomew is playing as an individual and sits at 171 (85-86) after two rounds.

“Although the scoreboard shows the same number as yesterday, it was a better performance because of the conditions,” said Vanderbilt head coach Greg Allen. “I saw some good things today, and I feel like we played better. I want them to come out tomorrow and try to find it. I want to get a little momentum heading into the Fall Preview.

The 2007 Mason Rudolph Women’s Championship concludes with the final 18 holes on Sunday. Tee times begin at 7:30 a.m.
