Women’s BB Opens Preseason Practice

Oct. 15, 2007

NASHVILLE, Tenn. — The 2007-08 women’s basketball season kicked off this weekend, as Head Coach Melanie Balcomb’s Commodores opened with a three-hour practice on the main floor of Memorial Gymnasium Saturday.

Four newcomers were welcomed to their first official practice by the nine returning players from the 2007 Southeastern Conference Tournament championship team.

“I’ve been very impressed with the energy we’ve shown through the first few days of practice,” Coach Balcomb said Monday. “Everyone is competing at a very high level. We’re making good progress right out of the gates. Our four freshmen stepped in on day one and have not held us up at all.”

Along with four new players, Balcomb’s staff has also seen a few changes. Assistant coach Kim Rosamond, video coordinator Clare Droesch, and graduate assistant Caroline Williams attended their first official practice as members of the Commodore staff Saturday.

Following that practice, the Commodores took in Vanderbilt’s homecoming football game against Georgia. The team ran the smoke machines during pre-game introductions and was honored in an on-field presentation during the second half.
