Vanderbilt enters the weekend as the only squad in the league with four players who have made 30 or more 3-pointers this season: Dan Cage (42), Derrick Byars (38), Shan Foster (37), and Alex Gordon (30). Four other SEC teams have two players with 30 or more 3-pointers on their roster: Alabama, Florida, Kentucky and Tennessee.

ON THE DEFENSIVE
Kentucky owns the SEC’s top field goal percentage defense, allowing opponents to shoot 36.7 percent from the field. Wildcat opponents haven’t scored more than 70 points in a game during UK’s current win streak.

Vanderbilt plays a ranked opponent for the third time in the last four games when it travels to No. 25 Kentucky Saturday for a 2 p.m. CT contest. The game will be televised by Lincoln Financial Sports.

The Commodores (12-6, 2-2 Southeastern Conference) played one of their best games of the season Wednesday en route to earning a 94-73 home victory over No. 10 Alabama. Vanderbilt made a season-high 15 3-pointers and recorded a season-high 27 assists on its 35 made baskets in the game.

All five Vanderbilt starters scored in double figures led by Shan Foster’s game-high 27 points on 9-of-15 shooting with five 3-pointers.Fellow wing player Derrick Byars added 15 points and three 3-pointers. Ross Neltner added 14 points and six rebounds. Dan Cage and Alex Gordon had 12 each.

The win over Alabama marked Vanderbilt’s third win in four tries against ranked opponents this season. The Commodores have home wins over then-No 16 Tennessee (82-81) on Jan. 10 and then-No. 25 Georgia Tech (73-64) on Dec. 9. Vanderbilt lost its season opener to then-No. 8 Georgetown (86-70) on Nov. 15. All four previous games against ranked foes have taken place at Vanderbilt’s Memorial Gymnasium.

Vanderbilt recorded its first season sweep of Kentucky (15-3, 4-0 SEC) since the 1973-74 campaign last season, claiming a 57-52 in Lexington and an 84-81 in Nashville. The Commodores’ win at Rupp Arena marked their first in 29 tries in the home of the Wildcats. Kentucky leads the overall series 128-38.
