Vanderbilt (1-2) looks to build off its first win of the season Tuesday when visiting Furman enters Memorial Gymnasium for a 7 p.m. CT contest. The game will not be televised.

Commodore fans will see some familiar faces on the Furman baseline as former Vanderbilt assistant Jeff Jackson returns to Nashville as the Paladins new head coach. Joining Jackson on the Furman staff is former Commodore point guard James Strong.

Jackson served as an assistant to current Vanderbilt head coach Kevin Stallings for seven seasons before taking the head coaching position at Furman on April 24, 2006. Strong, who played at Vanderbilt from 1997-2000 and finished third in career steals with 209, served as the Director of Video Operations under Stallings from 2000-2006. While members of the Stallings coaching staff, Jackson and Strong helped Vanderbilt advance to postseason play five times, highlighted by the Commodores’ Sweet 16 run at the 2004 NCAA Tournament.

The current group of Commodores are focusing on recording back-to-back victories after posting an 81-70 victory over Elon Saturday at Memorial Gymnasium. Four Commodores scored in double figures led by Ross Neltner’s 18 points. Dan Cage hit five 3-pointers in contributing 17 points.

Furman (3-2) will be playing its fourth consecutive road game Tuesday. The Paladins suffered a 60-58 loss at North Dakota State Wednesday despite a career-high 27-point effort from Paladin forward Moussa Diagne, who made 10-of-15 attempts from the field.

Vanderbilt owns a 5-0 lead in the overall series with Furman, including a 4-0 mark at Memorial Gymnasium.
