9/7/2006 The Vanderbilt men’s basketball schedule for the 2006-07 campaign features 17 regular-season home games and 14 contests against teams that advanced to postseason play a year ago. Non-conference home contests against Georgetown, Furman, Lipscomb, East Tennessee State and Georgia Tech along with road visits to Wake Forest and Rice highlight the early portion of the 30-game schedule. The Commodores also play three games in the San Juan Shootout, Dec. 19-21. “It’s one of the most difficult non-conference schedules we’ve had,” said head coach Kevin Stallings who enters his eighth year at Vanderbilt. “We face several quality opponents at home and on the road, as well as take part in the San Juan Shootout. Our non-conference schedule definitely will help prepare us for league play.” The Commodores are scheduled to appear on television 11 times, including their season opener against 2006 NCAA Tournament participant Georgetown, Nov. 15 at Memorial Gymnasium. The game tips off at 8 p.m. CT on Fox Sports Net South (FSN South). Two Vanderbilt games will be televised nationally, including the home contest with Atlantic Coast Conference member Georgia Tech on Dec. 9. The match-up will air on ESPN2 at 4 p.m. CT. The Commodores also play host to defending national champion Florida on CBS Feb. 17 at 12 p.m. CT. Along with the Georgetown contest, eight other Commodore games will appear on regional television. Vanderbilt’s match-up at Wake Forest on Nov. 21 will be televised by FSN South at 8 p.m. CT. Other Commodore games to air on FSN South include Vanderbilt’s Southeastern Conference opener at Auburn on Jan. 6 at 5:30 p.m. and the Georgia contest at home on Feb. 3 at 6 p.m. CT. Five league games will appear on Lincoln Financial Sports, previously known as Jefferson Pilot Sports, including at Kentucky on Jan. 20 (2 p.m. CT), home against Ole Miss on Jan. 27 (12 p.m. CT), at Florida on Jan. 31 (6 p.m. CT), at Tennessee on Feb. 10 (2 p.m. CT), and home against Kentucky on Feb. 25 (1 p.m. CT). Other highlights on the home schedule include: “We have tremendous respect for Coach Scott Sanderson and the program he has built at Lipscomb,” Stallings said. “We think it will be an attractive match-up for both Lipscomb and Vanderbilt fans.” The SEC’s top returning scoring wing duo in junior Shan Foster and senior Derrick Byars will lead the Vanderbilt attack this season. Foster averaged 15.9 points last year while earning First Team All-SEC accolades. He ranks third among the league’s top returning scorers. Byars became known as one of the SEC’s top newcomers last season, averaging 12.4 points. Both players ranked among the league’s top 3-point shooters. Vanderbilt season tickets start at only $75. Tickets can be purchased multiple ways: 1) on-line at vucommodores.com; 2) by calling 615-322-GOLD (option 1) between 8 a.m. – 8 p.m. Monday-Friday and 8 a.m.-5p.m. on Saturday and Sunday; 3) in person at the Vanderbilt ticket office at the McGugin Center.
