ATHENS, GA—Vanderbilt’s Chris Brady shot a four-over 76 to finish in a sixth place tie at the Liz Murphey Invitational at the University of Georgia Golf Course Sunday. As a team, the Commodores slipped from third to tenth place (935) as the host Bulldogs edged Auburn by two strokes for the team championship at 903.

Sunday’s round, played with improved weather conditions, gave Vanderbilt its most trouble as Brady was the lone Commodore breaking 80. Kristen Svicarovich had 80, Julie Bartholomew shot 81 and Jacqui Concolino struggled with an 83. Amber Lundskog’s 88 did not count on the team score. Florida State’s Caroline Westrup strung rounds of 77-73-71 for a five-over par 221 to win by a stroke.

One Commodore that did have a good day was sophomore Liebelei Lawrence, who is recovering from an ankle sprain but played all 18 holes today and shot an encouraging 74. Lawrence was playing unattached.

“She will be sore tomorow but that is to be expected,” said Coach Martha Richards Freitag. “Getting her back in the lineup will be a boost and to have her play well today was a bonus.”

Freitag was less satisfied with her other Commodores.

“I’m frustrated and disappointed because we had another opportunity today that we didn’t take advantage of. We just have to find a way to play better. Chris competed hard today but didn’t have her best game going. I know this team is capable of much more and right now we all need to all dig down deep and get ourselves focused. We will take Monday off and practice Tuesday before getting on the plane Wednesday for Wake Forest.”

Next weekend the Commodores play at the Bryan National Collegiate in Greensboro.
