ATHENS, GA—Chris Brady and Jacqui Concolino shot three-over par 75’s in blustery conditions to pace Vanderbilt to a third place finish after the first day of Georgia’s Liz Murphey Invitational Friday. The Commodores compiled a 305 total, 17-over par, to trail first place Wake Forest by seven shots while the host Bulldogs were plus-13.

Brady and Concolino were in a logjam for sixth position while Jackie Beers of Georgia was the lone golfer under par with a three-under 69.

Vanderbilt received solid play from freshman Amber Lundskog (76) and sophomore Julie Bartholomew, who added a counting 79 while placing in place of the injured Liebelei Lawrence. Kristen Svicarovich had an 81 to complete the Commodore team.

“The thing that impressed me the most about our play today was the way we competed,” said Coach Martha Richards Freitag. “We talked about this last night and we wanted to take care of our own game, avoid getting distracted by weather or competition and simply enjoy playing an excellent golf course. I think we did just that and had a very solid day of golf as a result.”

Freitag said both Brady and Concolino are poised to make another run at medalist honors, noting that Brady suffered three 3-putt greens and Concolino had several bogeys that she might normally have avoided.

Play continues Saturday and Sunday over the University of Georgia Golf Course. Vanderbilt will tee off in the later flight tomorrow morning.
