BLACKSBURG, Va. – Solid finishes by junior Alisa Cotter, senior Josie Hahn and the 4×400-meter relay foursome provided the top Commodore highlights at the Virginia Tech Challenge held Feb. 11-12.

In the final competition before the Southeastern Conference Indoor Championships, the Commodores were unable to capture an individual title at the Virginia Tech meet, which attracted an outstanding field including five Atlantic Coast Conference squads and three teams from the SEC.

Cotter, from Hanover, Mass., easily captured her mile preliminary race in 5:00.00, the third fastest effort at the distance among 40 competitors.  Cotter appears primed to break her mile personal best at the SEC Championships, where she ran 4:57.44 one year ago.

Two other Commodore milers, junior Brittany Sizer and junior Caitlin Shannon, finished sixth and ninth overall in the mile with efforts of 5:02.30 and 5:03.12, respectively.

Hahn performed well in a pair of events, the high jump and 4×400-meter relay. The three-time All-American from Clinton, Tenn., was the top SEC finisher in the high jump, claiming fourth place with a clearance of 5’8″.

Hahn ran the third leg on the Commodores’ 4×400-meter relay squad, joining freshmen Andrea Rosemond and Lauren Fortson and sophomore Latisha Bryant. The foursome finished sixth overall, running an indoor seasonal best of 3:49.88.

In other action, Rosemond continued to show outstanding sprinting abilities, setting a personal best of 7.35 in the 55-meter dash. The performance ranks sixth all-time by the Commodore at the distance. Senior Nadiyah Humber also finished ninth in the 3,000 meters with a personal best of 10:14.10.

The Commodores are off this weekend in preparation for the SEC Indoor Championships scheduled Feb. 25-27 at the University of Arkansas.
