Vanderbilt Closes Out Non-Conference Schedule With Visit From Texas-Pan American

Game Notes

NASHVILLE — Vanderbilt concludes the non-conference portion of this season’s schedule when Texas-Pan American visits Monday for a 7 p.m. tip-off. The game marks Vanderbilt’s third contest in the past six days and concludes the Commodores’ four-game homestand.

A win against the Broncs on Monday would extend the Commodores non-conference home win streak to 23 and tie the school record for most home wins in back-to-back seasons at 28. Vanderbilt has won 12 home games this season after setting the school record a year ago with 15 victories at Memorial Gymnasium. The two-year win total would match the 14 victories compiled during the 1993 and 1994 campaigns.

The Commodores (13-9) are coming off an 84-70 home loss to No. 6 Kentucky on Saturday. Corey Smith recorded his first career double-double when he led all scorers with 16 points and grabbed a career-high 12 rebounds. Mario Moore hit four 3-pointers in posting 15 points. DeMarre Carroll registered a career-high 12 points to go along with seven rebounds. His six offensive rebounds were the most by a Commodore this season. However, Vanderbilt committed 20 turnovers that led to 30 Kentucky points in the loss.

Texas Pan-American (11-11) is coming off a 72-70 setback at Texas A&M Corpus Christi on Saturday. The Broncs are led in scoring by senior guard Sergio Sanchez who averages 16.8 points.

Monday’s game marks the first meeting between the two schools.
