Box Score | Photo Gallery (photos available for purchase) The Tigers scored a field goal on their first possession, and never relinquished the lead. The Commodores got on the board with just over a minute to play in the first half when quarterback Jay Cutler ran for a 1-yard touchdown. The 13-play, 83-yard drive was the Dores’ longest of the season. With today’s performance, Cutler’s total career yardage surpassed 6,000, moving him into fourth place all-time at Vanderbilt for total offense and fourth place for passing yards. The junior from Santa Claus, Ind., has gone more than five games without an interception. Backup quarterback Steven Bright took over in the third quarter after Cutler left the game following a tackle in the backfield. Vanderbilt linebacker Moses Osemwegie turned in another standout performance tonight, with 12 tackles and a forced fumble. He has recorded 10 or more tackles in seven of eight games this season. The only game he recorded fewer than 10 was against Navy when he left the game with a concussion. Sports Illustrated recently named Osemwegie one of the nation’s top performers for a team under .500. Senior defensive tackle Matt Clay recorded his first career sack, dropping LSU quarterback Marcus Randall for a 7-yard loss. LSU utilized an effective running game, totaling 273 yards on the ground in their sixth win of the season. The defending national champions go to 6-2, (2-2 in the SEC). The Commodores (2-6, 1-4) return to Dudley Field next Saturday to take on the Florida Gators for Homecoming. Kickoff is scheduled for 1 CT. |
