NASHVILLE, Tenn. — Vanderbilt men’s tennis has secured its berth into the NCAA Tournament for the second time in three seasons under head coach Scott Brown. The Commodores will face Notre Dame in the opening round, with the advancing team set to play the winner of the No. 14 overall seed and host Illinois versus Yale.
The Dores return to the dance after doing so in 2024 to cap off Brown’s initial season in Nashville. Vanderbilt (17-12, 5-9 SEC) draws Notre Dame (21-7, 9-4 ACC) to begin its tournament run in Champaign. It will be the first matchup between the two schools since 2019, which also came in the opening round of the NCAA Tournament; the Commodores sank the Fighting Irish 4-3 in that contest. Overall, the two schools are even at 2-2 in the all-time series between one another.
Vanderbilt generated 17 wins this year, its most since claiming 19 in the 2018 season. And in an NCAA Tournament where 13 SEC teams made the cut, the Dores notched their most conference victories since that same 2018 team with five. Included in that was Vanderbilt’s first-ever win in College Station, Texas, as the Commodores knocked off No. 14 Texas A&M 4-3 on March 1.
The black and gold reached as high as No. 11 in the ITA team rankings this season, the program’s highest ranking since 2003. Sophomore Pablo Martinez Gomez currently leads the Dores in the singles rankings at No. 72, with freshman Hoyoung Roh also on the singles list at No. 105. Hoyoung comes in ranked at No. 14 in doubles alongside senior Nathan Cox. Martinez Gomez was named second-team All-SEC for his efforts this season, with Hoyoung also earning postseason recognition as an SEC All-Freshman selection.
This season’s tournament berth marks the 19th total NCAA Tournament appearance for Vanderbilt in program history. For more information, updates and exclusive game day content, follow the Vanderbilt men’s tennis team, @VandyMTennis, on Instagram and X.
